Lovely Day

Don and I had planned on going to ComicCon in Baltimore today.  My mom was sweet enough to watch the boys for us, so we had the whole day to ourselves.  We have gone to ComicCon for the past few years and always have a great time.  I'm not really too into comics, but there are a bunch of great artists there too and I always walk away with so many great prints.  Last night, though, we decided we would save ourselves some money and stay closer to home.  We went to the Bavarian Inn in Shepherdstown, WV for brunch, explored the surrounding area, had frozen yogurt, and then met awesome friends for dinner.  We missed our boys, but had a seriously great day together!

The brunch buffet at the Bavarian has a great selection and everything is delicious!  The corn and leek pudding, red cabbage, and the granola were some of my favorites from today.  Here's their brunch menu.

The inn itself looks pretty neat.  We've never stayed there, but I think we will keep it in mind for a close by weekend getaway.  The view is amazing.  That's the Potomac River in the last picture.  After brunch, we drove towards Sharpsburg, MD.  We pulled over right past this beautiful old iron works to get a better look at what I think are old ovens and these trains that I'm fairly certain are some kind of grills.  I may be way off, but that was our best guess!

My dad grew up in a tiny mountain town near Sharpsburg called Dargan.  The remains of the house he grew up in are still standing and I wanted to go find it, so we set off.  I remember my dad taking me there once before and showing me around what was left.  We ended up having to hike up a steep hill in the middle of the woods to get to it and I was so disappointed to find that it had been boarded up.  I had really wanted to go inside and take pictures.  I am such a nostalgic person and I don't know what I thought I'd find inside, but there was no way I was getting in.  It was great to see it, though, and imagine what it must have been like in the past.  The scenery all around was beautiful too.

After playing in the woods, we headed to Frederick, MD to check out Barnes & Noble and get some frozen yogurt at Tutti Frutti.  This was our first time here and I was seriously impressed with the flavors and toppings.  I forgot to snap a picture of Don's, but he had watermelon and blueberry yogurt topped with toasted coconut and slivered almonds.  I opted for three choices, because I couldn't choose!  I had salted caramel, death by chocolate, and cake batter topped with brownie pieces, chocolate chips, crushed peanut butter cups, banana, and pecans.  Can you tell that I have a bit of a sweet tooth and a terrible time choosing?!  It was all so tasty and I got a frequent buyers card, because I definitely plan on going back!
We totally got things backwards and had dessert first today, because after our frozen yogurt, we met friends, Jessee, JC, and their daughter Coraline, for dinner at a newly opened Mexican restaurant.  Don and I don't really have other couples we hang out with often and especially don't have friends with children who are close in age to the boys, so we are both pretty excited to hang out our new friends.  It helps that they're super fun and really sweet!

I think our boys had a busy day too, because Oscar was sound asleep when we got home and Ben wasn't far behind!  I hope everyone else had a great weekend!
