We are a house full of book lovers and it's no secret that vintage children's books are among my favorite things to collect and read to my boys. I actually have pretty much all of the books from my childhood and quite a few that belonged to my mom or other family members. I tend to look for cute ones anytime I go to a thrift or antique shop and am especially partial to Rand McNally Elf books. They're typically pretty adorable from cover to cover and I seem to have a lot of luck finding them for less than $3, which is usually my price limit! You can see a pretty good list of some of the Junior Elf books here and here is some of my collection-

Another Thrifty Post, Of Course!
I've had a few occasions recently to go thrifting with some awesome friends and we've found some pretty great things. I've picked up lots of things to give as gifts, but I can't really show those off yet! I've been especially amazed by the cute Christmas decorations. I'm heading up to my grandparent's to recharge and I'm thinking my grandma and I will probably at least pop into the nearby antique mall. Strolling through a thrift or antique shop is so relaxing and one of my favorite things to do, even if I don't find anything. I'm hoping for some things this weekend, though. Here are a few of my recent finds!
This felt Santa is my favorite Christmas find so far. Heidi took me to some of her favorite spots and that's where I found both of these items. I got some really cute vintage clothes for the boys there too. I'll have to show them off in another post!
The Santa in the top right is a candle and the guys on the bottom are salt and pepper shakers. I think Mr. and Mrs. Claus are meant to be a candle holder, but I think I'll use it to hold candy canes!
This is another find from my trip with Heidi. We think she holds a birthday candle.
I have plans to spray paint these guys!
These are my favorite kind of old children's books!
This story is so cute and you can't go wrong with Maurice Sendak!
I was drawn to the cover of this book. The stories are actually kind of odd and don't really go along with the cute cover. For instance, there's one about Lewis and Clark.
| Vintage cookbooks are the best, especially ones by Betty Crocker! |
I found the cookbook first and was so excited. I love anything to do with the Girl Scouts and the cookbook actually has great recipes. I found the magazines later in the day. The ads are my favorite, but there are some articles and features that are fun to look at too!
This little guy was in a bag of graduation decorations and doesn't look like he's ever been used. I think I'm going to open up his honeycomb decoration and display him on one of our shelves.

Thrifty Finds
The boys and I are spending the weekend at my grandparent's house, which means we are having an amazing time. We love the time we spend there! After yesterday's lengthy post, I thought I should spare everyone today and just post some pictures of my latest finds.
These coasters were part of my gift for the exchange at crafternoon, but I almost kept them for myself!
This cute little Fire King mug was the other half of my crafternoon gift.
I thought this little dish was really sweet and I love the red and light blue combination, not to mention it was only 25 cents!
These were recent Goodwill finds. The little gal on the left is a napkin ring or at least that's what I think she is supposed to be. The pig is a bank.
The cutest Thanksgiving decorations for 10 cents each?! Yes please!
Isn't this little guy the best?! His stuffing is a little bunched up in places and his arm is a bit floppy, but I think he's just perfect! In case you can't tell from the photo, he's embroidered. Grandma, if you read this, we need to make him some friends!!
I really have a thing for vintage children's books and these three were definitely my favorite of all my recent finds!
I love Richard Scarry! I had this book as a child, which likely means it's in my attic, but it's not a bad idea to have a spare. The children in the Lovely Day book are so adorable!
I've seen new copies of this book, but this one is from 1969. This book was originally published in the 1940s and has great illustrations.
You can rarely go wrong with vintage Little Golden Books!
I really should scan some pages from some of my old books sometimes. They are some of the cutest pictures you will ever see! I hope everyone is having a great weekend!
